Into the Shadows

The cold Bethlehem night hummed with frustrated murmurs. Inns overflowed, their doors shut against the weary. Mary, heavy with child, leaned against Joseph, her breath coming in ragged gasps as another innkeeper shook his head apologetically. "No room, good people. Not a single corner". Across the crowded square, another figure knew that same crushing disappointment. He was not old, but his shoulders slumped with the weight of countless rejections. "Nothing, sir", a voice boomed from a doorway he'd just approached. "Try the next street, maybe, but I doubt it". He'd heard it a dozen times tonight. His dark features, perhaps his silent intensity, seemed to put people off even more readily than the general lack of space. He wasn't belligerent, mere...

I'm Planning My Next Computer

My next computer is planned. AMD launched their new socket AM5 motherboards, X870, and X870E. These have buses of PCIe 4 x 8 lanes and 12 lanes. Apparently, B850 and B840, lower boards, will launch after Christmas, and maybe sooner. The B850 has an 8 lane bus and will do nicely.

The thing is, Intel are now just launching Z890 and I think I will go for Intel. These Intel boards provide an 8 lane DMI 4 bus. If saving money I will go for the Core Ultra 5 processor and not the F model because I would like to be able to use DisplayPort on the motherboard again.

In biding my time and trying to afford this, I may wait and see if Intel launch a H870 motherboard.
